Our Church Elders

At North Sound Church we are blessed to have spiritual depth, life experience and mature disciples of Jesus Christ on our board of elders.

About Our Elders

Elders are men and women called and appointed by God, confirmed by members of the church, and entrusted with the task of leadership. They are committed to the responsibility of being examples to the congregation, giving the church direction, teaching the people, and leading the church.

We are thankful to them, for their service and commitment to the vision God has given His church in downtown Edmonds.

Darrell Zielke

Darrell grew up in Kansas and placed his trust in Jesus at age nine with the help of a child evangelist from Wales. He has an undergraduate degree in the Natural Sciences and a graduate degree in Management Science.

His career has been spent in product and automation development and engineering management. His company developed automation for the recording industry through the phases of recorded tapes to CDs. He has served on several church boards in both California and Washington and has resided here since 1992.

He has been involved with Bible Study Fellowship our Compass Groups and many church projects. He is married to Helen, formally the church Administrative Assistant and has a daughter, two grandchildren and six great grandchildren, all thankfully being raised in wonderful Christian homes.

Jack Hoover

Born in the Pacific Northwest, Jack has spent most of his life here in Washington. He has also lived in Colorado, Montana, and California, and his career has been exclusively in the world of business. He has an undergraduate degree in business as well as graduate degrees in both business administration and Christian apologetics.

Jack came to know the Lord as a sophomore in high school. He has more recently served in Christian leadership as a member of multiple non-profit boards and is today active in various Bible studies, mentorships and teaching opportunities. Jack and his wife Sheri have two marvelous adult children, Evan and Jenna.

Tom Doerge

Tom Doerge has enjoyed traveling and interacting with people from all backgrounds and cultures, from early on. He grew up in Corvallis, OR but attended college in Minnesota where he met the Lord in a one-of-a-kind experience one morning in 1971. The other major event for him in college was meeting and marrying Jean, now over 45 years ago.

They have two grown daughters who reside in Texas and Michigan. Careers in Soil Science and Agronomy (Tom) and Nursing (Jean) took them to jobs in Oregon, Arizona, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Illinois and finally Edmonds, Washington. During that time they also enjoyed a wide variety of church experiences, which emphasized small home groups. These experiences included stints in Presbyterian, Assembly of God, community non-denominational, Evangelical Free and Black Baptist churches. Tom’s areas of spiritual interest and gifting are prayer, missions and giving.

John Taylor

John brings 37 years of experience working with churches all over the Pacific Northwest as a church architect and consultant with an emphasis on long range strategy. His personal involvement with previous ministry positions has included: small group leader, discipleship, missions, elder, men’s ministry, leadership development and assimilation. His deep passion is discipleship – helping the growing to grow and experiencing the presence of Jesus daily.

John, along with his wife Jean and their 4 daughters have made 25 trips to the country of Ukraine over the last 18 years. John and Jean love spending time with their daughters, son-in-laws, and, friends, and love activities close to the water and Puget Sound!

John Campbell

John was born in England, grew up in California, and has called the Pacific Northwest home since 1994. He met his wife LeAnne when he was 17 and they were both working at Magic Mountain (the 2nd happiest place on earth); she led him to the Lord and they have been married for almost 35 years. Since moving to the Seattle area, his ministry roles have included Sunday school teacher, Bible Study Fellowship group leader, church deacon, usher, Alpha volunteer, and an adult mentor position with Reach Ministries.

Some of the greatest joys in John’s and LeAnne’s lives have been the friendships, community, and ‘living life together’ experiences God has given them through the Small Group they have been a part of since 1997. John and LeAnne have three wonderful children: John (plus his wife Dora), Amanda, & Claire; and have lived in Edmonds since 2012.
